TECHMED EVENT 2026: THE HOSPITAL OF THE FUTURE

The healthcare sector is under increasing pressure: rising costs, growing demand for care, and persistent staffing shortages call for new ways to organize healthcare. Rapid technological and societal innovations are paving the way for smarter, more efficient, and patient-centered care, but this requires collaboration between research, technology, education, and clinical practice. On November 5, 2026, the TechMed Center at the University of Twente in Enschede will host the 8th edition of the TechMed Event, with the theme “The Hospital of the Future: Transforming Healthcare with Smart Medical Technology.” Here, professionals from various sectors will share knowledge, discover new perspectives, and build partnerships that will shape the healthcare of tomorrow.

The central meeting place for the MedTech sector

Each year, the event brings together more than 400+ MedTech professionals from over 100 organizations. In the Experience Center, the Innovation Labs, and the TechMed Talent Area, visitors can experience the latest technologies firsthand through prototypes, demonstrations, and workshops.

Program

The program consists of a plenary session and nine inspirational sessions. The event begins with the core issue: the urgency of the Hospital of the Future, which will be explored from various perspectives, with the audience playing an active role. The day will conclude with an interactive keynote lecture by AI expert Hendrik van Zwol. Between the segments of the plenary program, visitors can create their own itinerary from inspiring parallel sessions on topics such as AI and data-driven healthcare, robotics in healthcare, medical imaging and oncological screening, healthcare beyond the hospital walls, technologies for personalized treatment, international MedTech collaboration, the MedTech Twente NextGen-finale and the cross-pollination between the defense and healthcare sectors.

The initiative ‘The hospital of the future’

‘The hospital of the future’ is an initiative of the University of Twente (UT), Medisch Spectrum Twente (MST), FME, and Twente Board, in which knowledge institutions, healthcare partners, and companies are joining forces. By utilizing medical technology, they are developing the hospital of the future so that high-quality care can continue to be provided despite the staffing shortage.
