High Tech Factory Continues to Expand
A great deal has happened at High Tech Factory since the official opening on 16 May last year. For example, the successful spin-off of the University of Twente, Ostendum, was established in our complex towards the end of 2013. This company recently won the Frost & Sullivan prestigious Innovation Leadership Award; a best practice award presented to Ostendum for its portable laboratories that make a significant contribution to medical diagnostics. Our interview with one of the founders of Ostendum, Aurel Ymeti, is to be found elsewhere in this Newsletter.
Other tenants and users of High Tech Factory are also doing everything in their power to attract attention. Solmates and Medimate were the first high-tech companies in Twente to receive financial support from the Innovatiefonds Overijssel. This fund (57 million Euros) is a joint initiative of Regio Twente (Twente Region) and the Provincial Authority of Overijssel intended for innovative and auspicious Twente business cases in the SME sector within the top sector of High-Tech Systems and Materials. Micronit Microfluidics, the company that develops advanced glass chips for the medical sector, is literally on the eve of making a substantial sprint in terms of growth. The company expects to further increase production in the High Tech Factory lab over the next few years, we are told by co-founder Micha Mulder in this Newsletter.
